Page 7 : My second demo!

Teaching is a journey of small steps and steady growth, where each lesson builds a stronger, more confident teacher.

On October 30th, 2024, I had my second demo. My feelings were just like they were before my first demo, scared and nervous. However, since I had received feedback from my cooperating teacher, Mr. Banigon, after my first demo, I knew I just needed to focus on improving the areas he had mentioned and, of course, on mastering the material I was going to teach. Here’s to an even better demo, hehe!

Before my afternoon demo in the statistics classes, I first observed the morning mathematics classes as usual. Today, Mr. Banigon’s lesson was about Graphs of Polynomial Functions, and the classes went smoothly.

After the mathematics classes for 10-Newton and 10-Descartes, I returned to the Mathematics Department to prepare my demo material on the Weighted Mean. I made sure to maximize my preparation during this break because, the day before, I was too tired to fully prepare, so I only managed to do a bit of preparation.

Finally, at 12:20 pm, I went to the classroom and started preparing my second demonstration. Not long after, finally my second demonstration had started. It wasn’t too different from my first demo, but I’ll still let you know how it went this time! Here is the lesson plan for my second demo:

I began the class with a review session, where I took on a bit of a role-playing approach to refresh their memories on what they had learned in the previous lesson. Here’s how it looked on the PowerPoint slides.

It was quite a long PowerPoint, haha! But in class, the review itself was kept brief. After wrapping that up, I introduced the lesson of the day which was about The Weighted Mean.

With the day's lesson introduced, I moved on to the learning objectives. I explained that there were three objectives for the lesson and asked one of the students to read them aloud for the class.

Next, I began teaching the main lesson, the weighted mean. I explained its definition, the formula, and provided some examples. Afterward, I gave them an activity similar to the one from my first demo, where they had to find the weighted mean in real-life situations in groups, also present some of their works.

After a maximum of three groups presented their work, I led the class in generalizing the lesson of the day.

Then, just like on the first demonstration, I closed the class by giving a short quiz. I also followed the same steps for both 10-Newton and 10-Descartes. Here are some photos of my second demo:

Just like on my first demo, my cooperating teacher, Mr. Banigon, reviewed my teaching afterward and provided feedback for improvement in my final demo next Monday. Here are his notes:

So, that was all about my second demo! Mr. Banigon said I did much better than my first demo. However, there's still a lot to improve. Now, I need to prepare for my final demo, and I'm feeling so nervous! Please wish me luck. See you soon in my next post! <3

The beauty of a journey isn’t in the destination, but in the people you meet and the memories you create along the way. After the final demo...
