Page 2 : First things in the Philippines.

Every time you step outside your comfort zone, you welcome new friendships and exciting experiences.

On October 8th, 2024, we finally had our flight to the Philippines. The flight had a transit in Hong Kong. So, the route we took was Palembang - Jakarta, Jakarta - Hong Kong, Hong Kong - Manila. The flight was fun because I got to experience it with everyone—the six of us. Of course, it was also tiring, but that didn’t really matter as long as we had fun, right?

On October 9th, we finally arrived in the Philippines. Ma'am Dhana was there waiting to pick us up. Once we arrived, we went straight to our temporary stay in Santa Isabel College dorm. It was just a place for us to rest for a while because the hostel in Philippines Normal University was fully booked until October 12th.

After that, we met Ma'am Vicky and strolled around Manila for a bit. We rode a public transportation vehicle called a Jeepney for the first time. Then, we had lunch together with Ma'am Vicky at SM Mall.

On October 10th, 2024, we went out at 9 AM for a tour with the buddies from Philippines Normal University. They were all so nice and cool. They explained a little bit about the history and everything. After the tour, we observed some classes, including grade 3, grade 8, and grade 9 in their English lessons.

On October 11th, 2024, we attended an opening ceremony at Philippines Normal University. We wore our South Sumatra traditional clothing and sang our national anthem, "Indonesia Raya," with the choir from Philippines Normal University. The choir was impressive for learning our song. The six of us also performed another national song called "Indonesia Pusaka." During the event, Ma'am Rita gave a lecture at Philippines Normal University about educational podcasts.

On October 12th, 2024, we met and talked with the President of Philippines Normal University, Prof. Dr. Bert J. Tuga. After that, we visited Intramuros, a popular historical site in Manila that holds significant history. Then, we also went to Mall of Asia and enjoyed the view from its rooftop.

After touring Manila in the evening, we packed up our things and moved from Santa Isabel College dorm to the PNU hostel.

And that's just the beginning of my stay in the Philippines! Our practice teaching journey is yet to come, so please stay tuned, hehe! <3
